Course Description
Chemistry Honors is a rigorous course that involves the study of matter and energy. Topics of study include: matter and measurement, atoms, molecules, and Ions, stoichiometry, periodic properties, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, properties of solutions, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry. Many of these units involve a large amount of mathematical calculations and manipulations. Students must have completed Algebra 1. Students are encouraged to sit for the CLEP exam at the end of the course to demonstrate their levels of understanding and mastery.
Students should expect an hour of work, 4-5 days a week outside of class.
Awards high school honors class only; no "regular" credit available.
Laboratory investigation is separated into a different section and is required for a complete Chemistry with Lab.

Introductory Chemistry Essentials (3rd ed.) by Navaldo Troy
ISBN: 978-0136019916 Textbook will be loaned to student by instructor to ensure everyone uses the same edition, as some universities "customize" the contents for their course content. Textbook fee included in class cost; Lost or damaged books will require a replacement fee. Students must also have a 1.5 inch 3 ring binder with paper, colored pencils, pencils, highlighters (optional), and a scientific calculator (recommended TI-84). |
