Physical Science Honors
ACCelerated studies in Physics & Chemistry
Course Description
A rigorous one-year high school and upper middle school physical science class that integrates history, mathematics, and technical communication skills to provide mastery of math and science foundation material that will be used in future science courses: unit conversions, metric prefixes, scientific notation, and concepts such as heat transfer, energy, atomic structure, and chemical bonding. Ideal for students who want to begin studies of the natural sciences but who have not yet completed the required math. Ending the year with a basic understanding of chemistry will prepare students for the topics in biology that use chemical bonding to explain biological systems. It is also a good fit for students who have completed biology but who would benefit from an additional year of math before entering chemistry or physics. Includes lab work, with an emphasis on learning how to write a quality lab report based on pre-lab work and the data and observations of the experiment.
Awards 1 high school natural science with lab. Students should have completed Algebra 1.
