Paperfolding for Engineering
This class will start with the basics of paperfolding and move through a series of paperfolding projects to improve fine motor skills, visual motor integration, 3D spatial manipulation, and the ability to understand and follow multi-step directions. Once the students have developed a basic ability, we will use paper while following the engineering design process to build and improve projects.
Why paperfolding? While the educational benefits of paperfolding and origami have been appreciated for centuries, recently, engineers and scientists have used the art to advance science and engineering in many fields. This video from NASA highlights some of the new technology developed using paperfolding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly3hMBD4h5E Thursdays 2:05-3:05 pm EDT |
