2020-21 Preparatory Academy, Inc. Policy for COVID-19 (8/8/2020)
This policy has been developed from CDC, WHO and other health officials’ information.
As an educational institution, we appreciate that new discoveries and insights may change the way we react to this virus. Therefore, this policy may change throughout the academic year. Preparatory Academy, Inc. will adapt and adjust the steps we implement to insure we comply with health standards and are using best practices to keep our students, staff, and families safe.
At any Preparatory Academy, Inc. function including but not limited to activities, events, gatherings or in-person courses, all participants will follow the social distancing guidelines and etiquette outlined.
Safe Practice Etiquette
Preparatory Academy, Inc. is temporarily suspending our travel and family events. For example, our Georgia Wilderness Exploration event has already been canceled. We hope to resume this and other experiential learning opportunities as soon as it is deemed safe to do so by health authorities.
Additionally, our hosted project fairs will be virtual this academic year. Our students will be sharing their best presentations for friends and families in our virtual classrooms.
We will notify families as these opportunities become available.

Preparatory Academy, Inc. will adapt and adjust the steps we implement to insure we comply with health standards and are using best practices to keep our students, staff, and families safe.
At any Preparatory Academy, Inc. function including but not limited to activities, events, gatherings or in-person courses, all participants will follow the social distancing guidelines and etiquette outlined.
Safe Practice Etiquette
- Wash hands thoroughly and regularly but especially after using toilet facilities or before eating. Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Soap and water should be readily available.
- Cover coughing and sneezing. Throw used tissues away immediately and wash hands or use hand sanitizer.
- Cloth face coverings should be worn by all staff students and participants.
- Alternative face shields may be worn as appropriate
- Cloth face coverings should not be worn by anyone under the age of 2 or who have trouble breathing.
- Be mindful of distance. Always try to stay 6 ft apart from others.
- Refrain from touching your face or making physical contact with another person outside of your household group when possible.
- Comply with requested temperature checks or other safety requirements as asked such as staggered meeting times and limiting the number of people who attend.
- Be conscientious of your fellow students and community members. If you are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, refrain from attending public events until you have been tested and cleared.
- Hand sanitizer
- Thermometers that take forehead readings– for temperature checks
- Disinfectant wipes
- Other supplies such as gloves, tissues, paper towels etc. as needed for the event in order to maintain a healthy environment
- Modified layouts to help with distanced seating
- If a student or family member of a student is diagnosed or has symptoms of the virus: first and foremost, follow your local health guidelines for reporting and responding to COVID-19
- Consistent with applicable law and privacy policies, staff and families should self-report to the school if they or their student have symptoms of COVID-19, a positive test for COVID-19, or were exposed to someone with COVID-19 within the last 14 days in accordance with health information sharing regulations for COVID-19.
- If you have been meeting in a micro-school or have attended any Preparatory Academy events within 14-days, please inform your learning pod instructor.
- If there has been a report of COVID-19 or symptoms in an attendee of an event that occurred within 14-days, the school will inform all attendees of that event, without revealing personally identifying information, and encourage self-monitor for symptoms according to CDC guidelines.
- Through virtual learning students may be able to continue attending courses while quarantined. If your student is still feeling well enough to attend some or all of their courses, they are welcome to continue attending virtually. Make arrangements the pod instructor to accommodate extended deadlines or lighter workload.
- Students who feel unable to attend school or complete coursework should make arrangements with the cohort instructor. The pod instructor will work with the student and parent/guardian to create a plan to help achieve the student’s educational goals for the year.
- Students who miss more than 15 days of school, and who are not able to collaborate with a pod instructor to devise a reasonable plan of action, will have to supplement the days missed with summer season courses. There may be additional fees and charges for summer school curriculum.
