Project-Based Learning
Real World Problems
Project-Based Learning is fun and tangible. We use an integrated project-based learning environment. Students will be immersed in the learning environment as we bring together natural sciences, math, English, social sciences and more. Students are presented with an overarching Question which provides the foundation for the four- to six-week curriculum. For each Question students will complete both a group and an individual project where they will develop real world solutions to existing problems. Learning pods will have two to three project topics in a semester. This problem solving approach helps students apply their academics to personal, local and global projects.
Growing Skills and Confidence
Throughout the year, projects will transition from instructor led topics to student driven projects as they develop proficiency in the methods and tools we introduce. Students will develop leadership, improve research and critical thinking skills. At Preparatory Academy we believe that learning comes easily when students are engaged and enthusiastic about what they are studying. By integrating academics and focusing on a point of interest, students can improve their understanding of all subjects while following their passions.
Presentation
Preparatory Academy will host a project fair at the end of each semester where students will have a chance to present their best projects to parents and other pod groups. The 2020-2021 academic year will include only virtual fairs, but we hope to resume hosting these events in person as well. Students work hard completing their projects and this is a chance to really demonstrate how they have grown and what they have achieved.
