Appropriate Learning Levels
With small class sizes and a dedicated mentor, each child develops at his or her own pace. All of our students take placement tests during their first weeks to determine their starting point and allow for appropriate grouping. Regardless of where they start, students will be asked to challenge themselves and to learn something new. Preparatory Academy uses specialists and focused learning pods for level specific development.
Portfolios and Assessment
Personal reflection is an essential tool that helps students see their growth and academic understanding. Preparatory Academy instructors coach our students in how to develop useful, relevant, and kind assessments for themselves and others and how to develop portfolios. The student portfolios include examples of the students' involvement in project initiatives, academic samples, personal reflections on their leadership growth and academic progress. Rather than grades, instructors provide a portfolio review and written evaluation for each student, including strengths and areas for improvement. Any high school level course will also include a standard letter grade.
