Project-based Learning Academics

We leverage the advantages of project-based learning and support students with fundamental academic skills to maximize student academic success. Students apply these skills as they seek solutions to their authentic projects. To encourage lifelong learning, we give students the tools they need to conduct research, set goals, and self-assess.

Upper Elementary Grades 4 - 6

Students focus on the fundamentals through curriculum that stresses comprehension of the basics of math through pre-Algebra; English syntax, grammar, and usage; natural science concepts using correct vocabulary and explanation; history and geography in subject areas based on the student's curiosity and interest. These students begin to explore how to problem solve and plan projects. Emphasis is placed on understanding the processes and how to manage multi-step tasks through practical application.

Middle School Grades 6 - 8

Students transition from mastery of the basics to learning skills necessary to be successful in the ever-changing 21st century. Students build more advanced math, science, and language arts skills. Additionally, they begin to take charge of their own study skills. We incorporate more natural science courses, engineering, and technology courses to spur problem solving and creativity as well as to build practical life skills. We encourage individual exploration of subjects that interest each student, including the arts and sports.

Foundational Knowledge

We acknowledge the need for math, science and language arts as foundational. Therefore, we designed a course of study that prepares each student for success in the next level of his/her academic progression. All students are required to take courses in math, natural science with labs, and language arts at levels appropriate based on placement tests and class performance

Subjects of Interest

Preparatory Academy curriculum is designed to develop the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century. A large part of that is discovering how their personal passions are an integrated part of their lives. Learning is not exclusive to math or literature. It covers all aspects of how we live and grow. Subjects of interest will be interwoven into their learning pod curriculum and we will offer elective courses taught by specialists at different times throughout the academic year. Specialists and instructors also offer clubs where students can explore new interests or delve deeper into a passion.

Experience the Summer

The Summer Season is a free form learning experience. Students part from their Learning pods and intermingle as they choose courses that spark curiosity or build on their foundations. Students may choose to stretch themselves by focusing in on a subject they may need more help with. They may also choose to explore a new topic or a subject that is a personal interest.
