Academic Integrity and Honesty (8/8/2020)
All Preparatory Academy, Inc. virtual or micro-school students are expected to understand and adhere to the school’s policy on academic integrity and honesty. Students are expected to read and sign the Academic Integrity and Honesty Policy statement.
The academic ethical standards provided for in this policy describe student academic expectations regarding cheating, plagiarizing, and academic honesty for all school related projects, reports, tests, quizzes, and assignments whether completed in class or out of class.

Academic Integrity and Honesty Policy Definitions
- Honesty is truthfulness, sincerity, or frankness.
- Integrity means adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.
- Plagiarism is an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author.
- To cheat means to violate rules or regulations, and to take an examination or test in a dishonest way, as by improper access to answers.
At Preparatory Academy, Inc. plagiarism includes but is not limited to:
- Using another person’s words or ideas, either orally or written, without giving credit to the source
- Copying and pasting material from any source including the Internet without giving credit to the source or writer.
- Changing the words or order of words from a source and submitting them as your own.
- You must put quotation marks around direct quotes and give credit in your works cited. Even when you properly paraphrase, you must give credit to the source.
- Copying an assignment from another person without the instructor’s permission. This includes sharing work that was assigned as an individual assignment and includes obtaining answers from another student with or without permission.
- Permitting another student to copy your original work or providing your answers to another student without the instructor’s permission.
- Using, supplying, or communicating with unauthorized devices with the intent of deception; devices include but are not limited to phones, calculators, iPads, camera, textbooks, solutions manuals, recorders, computers. This includes but is not limited to using solutions manuals to obtain answers to questions to assignments, to obtain test answers, and using notes and textbook during “closed book” exams.
- Failing to follow instructor guidelines regarding collaboration, parent help, use of reference materials, etc. Students will be expected to complete assignments independently unless specifically directed otherwise.
