SCHOOL POLICIES
Attendance Policy (8/8/2020)
The educational program offered by Preparatory Academy, Inc. requires students to be present for instruction and classroom participation. We require regular attendance of all enrolled students. While students have flexibility regarding when and where they complete their coursework, they are accountable for meeting all state-mandated attendance requirements.
Ensuring school attendance is the responsibility of parents/legal guardians and students.
Preparatory Academy will enforcement the compulsory attendance laws and related child-welfare legislation. Instructors are responsible for maintaining accurate attendance records in compliance with State Statute 1003.23.
A student whose absence has been excused should work with their pod instructor to make up the missed material. It is the student's responsibility to make these arrangements. Students will submit make-up work within the deadlines set by the instructors. Preparatory Academy may grant extensions to the make-up time limit for extenuating circumstances.
Preparatory Academy considers the following reasons for absence excused:
Absences not included in the list above are considered unexcused. Students will not be given excused absences to remain out of school for the purpose of working unless the job is an integral part of the student's individual learning plan.
Any student who fails to attend any regularly scheduled courses and who has not been excused for absence will be reported to the appropriate administrator, and Preparatory Academy, Inc. will notify the parents or legal guardians.
Whenever any student has a total of 15 days of unexcused absence from school during any semester, the student will be considered habitually truant. Habitual truancy or deliberate nonattendance in excess of 15 school days within a semester is sufficient grounds for withdrawal of students 16 years of age or older, who are subject to compulsory school attendance under F.S. 1003.21. Preparatory Academy, Inc. authorizes the principal to inform the student and parents/legal guardians of the record of excessive absences as well as the school’s intent to notify the Department of Highway Safety of Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) of the student's excessive absences.
Students who have missed over 15 days of instruction during an academic year will be required to complete academic summer courses approved by the principal to complete their academic year.
